London Traffic Grinds To A Halt As Supercar Owners Rush To Buy Race Driver: GRID

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

This was yesterday actually but I posted it. There is an image of the event but Codemasters media site is having some slight issues.

Launch of cutting-edge racing game from Codemasters Studios sees hardcore fans dash to zavvi’s Oxford Street store to buy their copy

Six deluxe supercars drew the attention of huge crowds on a packed London street this morning as they screeched to a halt outside zavvi’s Oxford Street store to pick up a copy of the critically-acclaimed racing video game, Race Driver: GRID from Codemasters®. The six professional drivers in their full racing garb brought traffic to a standstill as they leapt out of their supercars just so that they could grab a copy of the game on launch day, despite the risk of their cars being towed away.

Pushing past the queues, the race drivers picked up a copy of Codemasters’ Race Driver: GRID and either an Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft® or PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system to play it on. Their motivation was to experience for themselves what critics have been dubbing the most realistic racing experience yet seen in a video game. With game and console in hand, the mysterious race drivers briefly stopped for photographs with the stunned crowds gathered around their vehicles before jumping back into their supercars and roaring off down Tottenham Court Road.

The six supercars that drew the crowds were an Aston Martin DB9 Volante, Aston Martin DB9 Coupe, Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Mercedes-Benz SLK55AMG, Range Rover Sport HST and Bentley Continental GT – collectively worth nearly £550,000.

This was just the first stage of the launch activities for Race Driver: GRID at zavvi’s Oxford Street store, which was also the venue for the grand final of the European Fastest Lap Challenge that has seen legions of gamers fiercely competing to set their best time on Spain’s Jarama circuit. The ultimate prize for the winner of the competition was a brand new BMW 3 Series car, worth almost £30,000.

Race Driver: GRID is released today, 30th May (Europe/PAL), on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and Games For Windows®. A Nintendo DS edition will follow, please visit www.racedrivergrid.com for more details.

DS: AWAY Shuffle Dungeon gets Pub and Distr for Pal

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Virgin PLAY is proud to give the first details of their newest Nintendo DS game, after signing with AQ Interactive. Virgin PLAY will be the publisher and distributor of AWAY Shuffle Dungeon in the PAL territories.

Hironobu Sakaguchi and Naoto Ohshima are the lead designers for the project. Naoto Oshima and Hironobu Sakaguchi both well known names in the industry for their work on their best-selling projects, and are now masterminding the characters and environment for Away respectively. To complement this dynamic duo, Nobuo Uematsu, one of the best known composers for videogames in Japan, is now dedicating his creative talent to compose the music for Away. With these 3 talented men working on the project, Away promises to become their next big hit.

Welcome to Webb Village. Webb Village is your average pleasant storybook village with one peculiar trait. Webb Village has been suffering from a rare phenomenon for over a century. People disappear leaving no trace behind, something that they refer to as ‘Away’. Nothing to let them know when it’s going to happen or who´s next…

Sword is a 17 year-old boy that came to Webb Village when he was 15. On the verge of becoming another ‘away’ victim, little Anella quickly jumps in the way to keep him from vanishing sacrificing herself instead. Her heroic action not only ‘aways’ herself, but all of the other villagers as well, leaving Sword alone.

Guided by a mysterious light, Sword finds his way to the Shuffle Dungeon where his adventure starts. There is a chance, to find the villagers and to bring them back, but can he do it before it’s too late?

Welcome to Webb Village, however long your stay.

Away, Shuffle Dungeon is scheduled for release this autumn 2008 exclusively for your Nintendo DS.

DS: Stop Smoking with Ubisoft and Allen Carr

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

I am not into these self-help titles - to me they really do not do anything but waste money. If you find they help great but I’m not wasting money.

Today Ubisoft announced that it will develop and publish the video game based on the successful Allen Carr’s Easyway to Stop Smoking method. Designed for Nintendo DS™, Allen Carr’s Easyway to Stop Smoking is scheduled for release in November 2008.

Published in 50 countries, Allen Carr’s Easyway to Stop Smoking book is an international best seller, and Allen Carr’s Easyway network of clinics spans the globe. Over 10 million smokers worldwide have already turned to Allen Carr’s Easyway books, clinics or DVD in order to stop smoking. The method removes the smoker’s belief that smoking provides them with any genuine pleasure or crutch, takes away the feeling of deprivation and therefore rids the smoker of the fear of stopping. The clinics offer a full money-back guarantee based on which the success rate after 3 months is over 90% and independent scientific studies confirm a success rate of over 50% after 12 months.

Brought to an exciting interactive platform, Nintendo DS, Allen Carr’s Easyway method will take on a whole new dimension. Players will be actively participating in the game’s content as they input the details of their smoking habits and even select their own Allen Carr’s Easyway coach to take them through the process of quitting.

Developed in conjunction with Allen Carr’s top experts, the game echoes the philosophy of Allen Carr’s Easyway method, enabling players to be entertained, challenged and to stop smoking at the same time.

“Ubisoft’s creative team has worked hard to deliver a game that successfully communicates Allen Carr’s Easyway method via play,” said Christian Salomon, vice president of worldwide licensing at Ubisoft. “The player experiences a truly interactive engagement with the game through which he or she learns that it can actually be enjoyable to quit smoking.”

Robin Hayley, managing director of Allen Carr’s Easyway to Stop Smoking, concurs. “There was an amazing synergy between Allen Carr’s Easyway team and Ubisoft as we worked on this project,” he said. “Our experts worked hand in hand with the Ubisoft team to create an entertaining and illuminating game that delivers Allen Carr’s Easyway method in a new, dynamic and highly effective way.”
